Summer Construction Season Begins
Users of bike path and river will be detoured
(RENO, Nev.) – As construction in and along the Truckee River continues on the Pioneer Ditch Diversion Relocation Project and begins on the Glendale Water Supply Improvement Project, users of both the bike path and river will notice several detours beginning July 6 through December 2010.
Bikers and walkers using the north bank bike path along the Truckee River will be temporarily detoured starting at Fisherman’s Park at 495 Galletti Way in Sparks and ending at Gateway Park at Greg Street. The bike path detour will allow riders to get back on the path at the Greg Street Bridge.
Recreational users of the river will also need to exit the river at John Champion Park at 975 Kuenzli. The detoured re-entry point is located at Rock Park in Sparks. These construction detours will be clearly marked with signs instructing users both of the bike path and river where to exit and re-enter.
The Glendale Water Supply Improvement Project will replace the current rock and rubble diversion on the Truckee River with a more efficient and environmentally sensitive design. The project’s new design allows for more effective capture of the community’s drought reserves when river levels are low and also includes improvements to this section of the river creating a safer passage for recreational users. Truckee River water provides approximately 85 percent of the water supply to Truckee Meadows Water Authority customers.
