Ray Gedvila, Senior Network Analyst
What brought you to TMWA and where did you work before? I worked in Los Angeles for 10 years at a credit card processing financial company; LA was good but Reno was better for raising a family. Reno is a smaller town which means I spend less time in traffic. We like to go camping and enjoy all the outdoor activities Northern Nevada has to offer. The kids love skiing, so Tahoe was a great place to take the kids, and I myself snowboard; so naturally, Reno was a good place to be.
What do you love most about your job? I love technical gadgets and in my position as a Senior Network Analyst, I use a lot of different technologies in my work, from networking, to security, to telephone integration systems.
What is unique about your job at TMWA? Since TMWA is a smaller company, I am able to work in a variety of settings, with a variety of employees and with a variety of different technologies.
What have you learned working at TMWA? In the short time I have worked at TMWA, I have worked on many different technologies and these opportunities have added to my professional skills.
What is the best part of your day? Morning is my favorite part of the day because that is when you meet with your team members and have quick conversations about projects. It is always interesting to come in and have a brief with your team and see if you can help with anything.
Do you have a favorite technology that you use at TMWA? My favorite technology for a current project is called VoIP, our new telephone system. VoIP is a telephone system that runs on the existing data network, as opposed to our current phone system, which requires its own wiring. So, basically, you use the same network for both voice and data. That will save TMWA money in the long run.
What is your best memory working at TMWA? The TMWA Holiday Party. It was a good time to see my co-workers outside of the professional environment.
